World attention is often focused on the atrocities of war but fails to recognize the accomplishments of peace. Dozens of nations have achieved a remarkable state of peace both with their neighbors and within their borders. Eighteen nations from around the world will convene for the inaugural Global Symposium of Peaceful Nations to:

Celebrate

The Symposium will open with the celebratory Gala Dinner on November 1, 2009 to recognize the achievements of the 18 participating nations.

Learn

The Symposium is most importantly an opportunity to examine peacefulness and develop insights into the history, policies and characteristics of the most peaceful nations. The proceedings will be recorded in a report and documentary to present information, lessons and prescriptions to the global community.

Lead

The insights of the Symposium will be offered as guidance to decision makers in governments, international organizations and nongovernmental organizations worldwide. In addition, the participating nations will be encouraged to embrace a leadership role to help advance the cause of peace.

Based on the results of the 2009 Global Peace Index (GPI) the two most peaceful nations in each of nine global regions have been invited to attend the Symposium. Public and private sector representatives from each participating country will engage in a high level dialogue and learning with the goal of leading toward greater peace.

ALERT

At present, there are no additional Global Symposia of Peaceful Nations planned. Please disregard any invitations to participate in events claiming to be a part of the Global Symposium of Peaceful Nations, as there is currently a hoax email being circulated.
